So, normally we eat pretty healthy around my house…..normally. ? Tonight was not the case. I didn’t have anything to cook and last minute came up with what I’m going to call Loaded BACON Mac N Cheese. It was the best thing I’ve ever out in my mouth! Not kidding.
Boil 8 oz noodles
Fry 6 slices bacon
Cook 1 lb hamburger meat
In a sauce pan combine 3 tb butter, 1/4 c AP flour and 2.5 cups of milk, 2.5 cups of cheese and a handful of green onions. (I may have left in a little bacon grease too ?) Sprinkle kosher salt to taste.
Pour over noodles in a casserole dish. Add 1 cup of cheese and brown.
Dont think about the calories, just eat!
A good denim top has become one of my personal must have items. They are extremely versatile and can be styled with pretty much any and everything! Take note that I did say a “good” denim top. 🙂 I have found that all denim tops are not created equal! If not careful, they can look cheap and very dated. But do not fret! Ok. Let me just say, this skirt is ah-mazing! Who would have thought a good ole denim shirt would look so fabulous with a TULLE skirt! Yes, Mam! You can add a denim top with almost any skirt, casual or formal and it completely changes the look up. Love this!
Here is a good way to keep those white jeans around after labor day! No longer do you have to abide by those silly rules! You can pair any vest over a denim top and it will look perfectly put together.

In our search for a new denim line to carry at Ally B we knew we were seeking a brand that was on trend, had an amazing fit and at a reasonable price. It’s every girls dream right? Let me tell you, it was not an easy task! We scoured the web and walked our little tooshies off all over the Atlanta Apparel Mart for this perfect denim brand. After viewing many different brands all roads lead back to Articles of Society. They were everything we were looking for. Our most favorite part is that they offer several fits for different body types. So they are not a one style fits all type of jean. So, I’ve embarked on the Whole30 journey and thought I’d share my thoughts and reviews so far. Just in case you are haven’t heard of it and wondering “What IS Whole30?” It is essentially a lifestyle change where you only eat whole foods. You avoid food irritants such as grains, legumes, dairy, alcohol, and sugar for 30 days. Here’s the link in case it’s something that interests you: Whole30 website.
I am currently on day 13. I had a small head start because I was already on a gluten and grain-free diet. I had slowly started slipping back into the comfort of ice cream, so I needed something to get my sugar intake in check. My solution was to start Whole30, and it turned out to be a lot easier than I imagined. That’s not to say I haven’t had my own struggles.
There are some drawbacks.
(1) You suddenly start craving all sorts of food, even some that you had long since forgotten. For me, it was sloppy joes and red velvet ice cream.
(2) Your vegetable and fruit budget is twice as much as your protein budget. I probably spend at least $100 a week on fresh fruit and veggies. That doesn’t include what I spend on meat.
(3) You feel insane as you slowly detox off of sugar. I don’t mean off-the-rails insane, but more like you day dream about being a character in Willy Wonka. “WHERE’S MY GOLDEN TICKET?”
(4) You get tired of preparing your own meals because eating out is a chore. Avoiding sugar and dairy is real, folks.
(5) You’re that friend who can’t go to happy hour.
I have done my own cost-benefit analysis, and the positives greatly outweigh the negatives.
(1) After that initial detox period, you have boundless energy.
(2) Your skin looks fabulous.
(3) You fall asleep and wake up easily.
(4) For all the money you’re spending on preparing your own foods, you’re still saving money by not dining and drinking out.
(5) You start thinking about what you’re the food you’re putting into your body instead of mindlessly eating whatever you can find.
(6) You can potentially lose weight and/or inches.
(7) You’re putting actual food fuel into your body instead of junk.
(8) You decrease your chances of diabetes or high cholesterol.
(9) You heal your body by not putting irritants in it.
(10) You discover that you’re strong-willed.
Although they discourage you from doing any body measurements or weighing, I did a few days ago. I gained two pounds! Now, I know why they tell you not to weigh before the end of the 30 days. I felt depressed and discouraged, but I kept plugging along. Today, I measured myself. I was 2.5″ smaller in my waist and 3″ smaller in my hips. That’s enough momentum to keep me plowing past July 4 onto day 30.
This is hands down Sam’s favorite meal. At least a close second to fried steak, mash potatoes gravy and biscuits, of course. Because what can beat that? Above is the picture before I coated it in cheese and baked it.
I enjoy cooking and hate baking. I cannot bake because I cannot follow a recipe. When I cook I just throw things in. So here’s my version of this dish.
Chicken, Spaghetti and Squash Casserole-
8 Boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1 pack of spaghetti noodles
4 yellow squash
Salt and Pepper
Boil chicken by itself, Sauté veggies in olive oil and boil noodles. I do this all at the same time. Mix it all together and dump in a lot of cheddar cheese and a jar or two of cream of mushroom soup. And use a lot of salt and pepper. If you want, add some butter 🙂
It’s so simple and yummy. If you aren’t a huge squash fan, just try it anyway! The squash isn’t overpowering at all. Give it try!
